Founded in 1974, Special Olympics Tennessee (SOTN) provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. SOTN strives to empower the people we serve by helping them to realize their full potential and develop skills through year-round sports training and competition. Special Olympics Tennessee conducts 17 different sports throughout the year and supports 32 area programs that include all Tennessee counties.
