Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club is dedicated to the protection, enjoyment and understanding of the outdoors. We envision a world where our natural resources are healthy, loved, and always protected, and where the outdoors occupies a place of central importance in every person's life. We strive to be a fully diverse outdoor organization, committed to increasing access to and engagement with the outdoors for all people, with leadership, activities, and participants reflective of the diverse communities we serve. AMC offers staff-led outdoor experiences and programs for people of all ages and backgrounds through our Northeast and Mid-Atlantic lodging destinations. Our 12 volunteer-led chapters, located from Maine to Virginia, also offer thousands of local outdoor activities and skills workshops each year. Staff and volunteers maintain over 1,800 miles of trails, support our conservation policy and research efforts, and help people feel welcome and safe in the outdoors.
